In this episode of Crime Watch Daily Updates: Connecting with people online always poses its own set of risks, and mother of three, Ingrid Lyne, met her tragic and untimely end at the hands of a man she connected with over the web.
Ingrid worked as a nurse in Seattle and started dating a man named John Charlton after meeting him online. The two had been together for about a month when they went on a date night to a Seattle Mariners home opener baseball game on April 8, 2016. They stopped by a bar after the game, where John got too drunk, and Ingrid would never be seen alive again.
According to John, the whole night was a blur.
He woke up on the sidewalk in Seattle and was accused of stealing her car, which was also found in the area.
Her family grew concerned and her mom eventually tracked down John’s number and texted him. She asked if he had seen her, but John ghosted her and stopped responding.
Then, several days later, someone in Seattle’s Central District found several of Ingrid’s dismembered remains in a recycling bin. John was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with her death.
Prosecutors argued John dismembered Ingrid in her bathtub, then discarded her remains around the city. John pleaded guilty to premeditated first-degree murder, and in January 2018, a judge sentenced him to 27 years and nine months in prison.
Let’s look at the police station interview with John and the details surrounding a loving mother’s violent murder.
