Police have identified the gunman suspected of killing a 15-year-old boy, an innocent bystander, in a broad daylight shooting on a Brooklyn street last week.
The alleged killer is just a teen himself, according to cops who said they are looking for Leopoldo Nash, 17, in connection to the slaying.
Nash, of Gravesend, is accused of shooting Faridun Mavlonov – a student at James Madison High School student — in the back when he meant to strike another person on 62nd Street near 20th Avenue in Bensonhurst around 1 p.m. last Monday, police said.
Mavlonov was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center and died early the next day.
The student was walking with a group of five boys and one girl when Nash allegedly fired seven rounds at them and struck him in the back, according to cops.
Nash had reportedly targeted one of the other boys but missed and struck Mavlonov instead, police said.
The gunman and his intended target had gotten into an argument during summer school at Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School and agreed to meet after class to duke it out with their fists ahead of the deadly shooting.
The slain teen, who lived less than a mile from where he was mortally wounded, had dreamed of becoming a UFC fighter and was a loyal friend, one of his pals told The Post following his death.
“He was like a big brother for everyone,” a 15-year-old friend said. “He looked out for them.”
The 15-year-old, who attended the same judo studio as Mavlonov, called him a great friend who was mature for his age as the eldest of six children originally from Uzbekistan.
“When you need someone to talk to, he would always be there. Even if you didn’t have money, you’d be like, ‘Yo, I’m hungry,’ he would put you first… Doesn’t matter how he is, if he’s hungry or not,” he said. “He’ll put you first and make sure he takes care of you.”
The boy’s father cried that his son’s life was cut much too short at his funeral Thursday.
“I have five kids and he was my boy,” Firdavs Mavlonov sobbed. “He’s helped me with everything. He took care of everything. He was 15. He didn’t see life.”
Mayor Eric Adams attended the funeral, where he told a packed mosque that Mavlonov was a “young baby who was prematurely taken from us.”
He decried violence among New York City’s young people and said authorities must remove guns from the streets.
“And it is our obligation to take this painful moment and turn it into a purposeful moment – and to rededicate our lives to saving the children of our city,” Adams said. “Young people are killing young people at an alarming rate.”
Nash had not been apprehended by police as of Sunday night. He was last seen fleeing the scene of the crime on 20th Avenue towards 62nd Street.
