Mary Moriarty, Minneapolis’ DA doesn’t care about crime victims’ families

People see what they want to see, which means they choose to ignore what is inconvenient to their worldview.

Everyone believes that their philosophy is the correct approach — and many who are in power are willing to gamble with the lives of innocent people to prove themselves infallible.

The victims of their gambling addiction are treated as necessary casualties to satisfy their appetite to implement their ideology, which is why the cries for justice are constantly falling on deaf ears.

In Minnesota, Hennepin County District Attorney Mary Moriarty is facing stark criticism from victims and family members of victims in the greater Minneapolis area for her policy positions that give disproportionate leniency to rapists, pedophiles and murderers despite her previous promise to “deliver more safety and more justice.”

Catherine Markey, whose son Stephen Markey was murdered during a carjacking in 2019, recalls how she was only told moments before a plea hearing that the DA was seeking only probation, and not jail time, for one of the teenagers involved in his death.

“It’s a trend definitely because of Mary Moriarty,” the mom lamented. “She’s still playing public defender — the only thing is, that’s not her role anymore.”

Sherrice Barnett felt a similar shock in reaction to Moriarty’s leniency when she was informed that the teen who murdered her son, Darrell Freeman, wouldn’t face any prison time.

“I couldn’t breathe,” she moaned. “I said, ‘I just got to get up out of here.’ I never would have imagined in a million years that it would have went that way.”

However, despite the disappointment coming from the victims and victims’ loved ones, Moriarty remains rigid in her philosophical approach to minimizing the number of young offenders who are incarcerated.

“I think it takes a lot of courage actually to act upon what you say you’re going to do,” Moriarty told the Star Tribune. “I knew we would get a lot of pushback. But if you’re truly going to make change, if you truly care about your values, and you want to have integrity, and you believe in research and look at the data, these are the right decisions and I stand by them.”

What Moriarty is showing the public is that their tears are no match for her hubris and that the injustice they may experience is a feature, not a bug.

Progressive ideologues like Moriarty believe that every system, especially the criminal justice system, is fundamentally flawed and the only way to course correct is to radically shift the direction of society’s boat — even if it means some may fall overboard.

They default by seeing anyone who encounters the criminal justice system as being the victim of an oppressive regime, which inevitably causes them to empathize with society’s terrorists instead of the people they violated.

Ideologues believe that while you may have been victimized by a single perpetrator, the perpetrator is being victimized by an entire system: Don’t worry, Moriarty is here to save them.

The pleas from loved ones of the murdered don’t even cause Moriarty to flinch with doubt, because for her, the right decision was always to adhere to her progressive principles and not the people.

Her faithfulness to ideology is why Moriarty can sleep comfortably at night with the plea deals she’s given, while the mother of a child who was killed cries herself to sleep knowing that tomorrow won’t be a day for justice.

Saviorism is what compels Moriarty to be the protector of incarcerated youths instead of the protector of the public as she gives leniency to the person who pulled the trigger of a gun without regard for the person who stared down the barrel of it.

Progressives in power will always be high-rolling risk-takers with the lives of others because spilled blood has never been a reason for them to halt their efforts to establish a utopia.

The victims put their cards on the table, and we now see that Moriarty is the Queen of Heartless.
