An “armed and dangerous” suspected killer wanted for gunning down the witness to another murder is on the loose in northern Georgia.
Demetrius Nicholas was last seen running into the woods in the Stone Mountain area outside of Atlanta as he unleashed a hail of gunfire on encroaching deputies, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said.
One deputy was grazed, either by a bullet or flying glass from the car in which he was riding, authorities said. He was treated at an area hospital and released.
Law enforcement officers from nearly a dozen local, state and federal agencies swarmed the area in a search for Nicholas, but ultimately cleared it before finding the suspected killer.
“At this time, he is still at large and charges are expected to be filed in addition to the original warrant for Murder,” the department said.
“The suspect is still considered armed and dangerous.”
Nicholas is wanted for the June 2022 murder of Timberre Mim, who was found dead in the driveway of a Stone Mountain apartment complex, according to WSBTV.
Neighbors said they heard eight or nine gunshots before her body was found just after 5:30 a.m.
Officials said Mim was a possible witness to a murder that happened the week prior at a nearby gas station.
The murdered man was also a resident of the apartment complex, police said.
