A fiend strangled a woman from behind – causing her to black out – in a heinous, apparently unprovoked attack in the East Village last week, cops said.
The 25-year-old woman was walking near Houston Street and Avenue D around 4:10 a.m. on Oct. 22 when an unidentified approached and strangled her from behind, police said.
The sudden attack caused the victim to fall to the ground and black out briefly, authorities said.
When the woman got back on her feet, her assailant ran off toward Avenue C, police said.
The disturbing attack left the victim with bruising to her knee and a cut on her neck.
The NYPD released a surveillance image late Tuesday of the still-at-large suspect.
Police said he appears to be between 35 and 45 years old, with a dark complexion, standing around 5-foot-6 and weighing about 140 pounds.
He was shown wearing a black hoodie, black sweatpants and black sneakers.
