A 68-year-old man was killed when a drunk driver plowed into him in Brooklyn — just 12 hours before another pedestrian died in a hit-and-run crash, police said Thursday.
Louis Garcia was crossing Glenwood Road at the East 105th Street intersection in Canarsie around 6:50 p.m. Wednesday when a 2017 Dodge caravan – driven by an allegedly intoxicated Gary Turner, 47 – struck him, throwing him to the pavement, cops said.
Garcia, of South Slope, suffered severe head trauma and was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Turner – who lives about a mile away – was arrested by responding cops at the site of the deadly crash, police said.
He was charged with vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, driving while intoxicated, an equipment violation and driving while ability impaired, authorities said.
About 12 hours later, a hit-and-run driver fatally struck a 67-year-old woman in Jackson Heights, Queens, cops said.
A SUV was heading east on 37th Avenue at around 6:45 a.m. Thursday when it struck the woman, crossing from north to south on 90th Street, police said.
The motorist took off, and the woman was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where she was pronounced dead.
She was not immediately identified, pending family notification.
The driver was still at large, cops said.
