Hur's special report on Biden's classified docs: Letters

The Issue: The special report on President Biden’s mental state and illegal storage of classified documents.

Watching recent news on the conclusions of special counsel Robert Hur on President Biden’s mental state, I am really upset with how the Democrats have gone into full denial — from First Lady Jill Biden right down to the housekeepers cleaning the White House (“1st lady rips Hur handling of hubby,” Feb. 12).

No one seems to want to admit that it is time to question the fitness of our perplexed president. Is it time for Democrats and Republicans to get together and do the right thing, like when they basically told President Nixon to use the exit door on the right under the threat of impeachment? Or is it time for Cabinet members to go ahead and use the 25th Amendment on Biden?

At the moment, the Democrats are a sad crew. They know what they have to do but can’t bring themselves to do the right thing.

Sal Giarratani

Boston, Mass.

Hur’s findings in his investigation into Biden having top-secret documents are proof that Biden is in serious mental decline and not fit to be the leader of any country.

However the liberal media, instead of throwing brickbats at Hur, should be sending him bouquets for getting Biden off the hook of facing potential charges.

Hur’s approach was similar to that of former FBI Director James Comey: He, despite finding that Hillary Clinton was extremely careless in using a private email server for government business, argued that his reason not to file charges was that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case forward.

The reason Hur used not to prosecute Biden was that he is an elderly man with a poor memory and cited examples so egregious that he likewise concluded that no jury would find him guilty.

After reading about all the blowback from the Biden people about how he’s fine and his mental health is perfect, I believe that Biden can be charged with crimes connected to him having and divulging classified documents.

I think Hur should’ve accepted the president’s declaration of perfect mental health and pressed charges. If that is what the Biden administration seems to want, let them have it.

If former President Donald Trump can be charged and threatened with prison, Biden should face the same treatment and penalty.

Jean Cole

Hur is like the boy in the classic story “The Emperor’s New Clothes.”

In this instance, everyone could see and hear for years that President Biden was cognitively challenged.

But until Hur wrote in his report on Biden’s mishandling of classified documents that Biden was “an elderly man with a poor memory,” most chose to ignore and deny what their eyes and ears clearly told them.

Michael Brucella

Brooklyn

Politics aside, Hur’s competence is questionable given at least two overlooked but fatal flaws in his special report on Biden: 1) Competence to stand trial is a motion to be raised by the defendant, not the prosecutor; and 2) Proof of intent needs to account for mental capacity at the time of the crime, not at the time of capture or trial.

Accordingly, Hur deserves no award for either blowing or throwing the case in Biden’s favor — only for finishing the dance.

Arnold Mazur

Palm Beach, Fla.

Biden willingly and criminally retained classified documents, both as a senator and after his time as vice president.

The fact that he is senile does not absolve him of his crime, and a jury should determine his guilt or innocence. At least Trump was president when he held onto his papers and they were kept in a more secure manner than a torn-open box in an often-opened garage. Biden’s garage was also available to his son, who is under investigation for illicit dealings with Russia and China.

Hur’s report on Biden’s mental condition should be enough to remove him from office before he does any further damage to this country.
