A stranger bashed a 44-year-old man in the face with a beer bottle after demanding $1 from him inside a Midtown subway station late Wednesday, authorities said.
The victim was standing on the northbound A and C train platform at Columbus Circle around 10:10 p.m. when another straphanger approached him and asked him for a buck, cops said.
Before the victim could respond, the menace grabbed the victim’s plastic bag and yanked it, causing it to rip, police said.
Then he clobbered the man on the forehead with a beer bottle, leaving him with a cut and minor bleeding, cops said.
The injured man was taken to Mount Sinai West, where he was listed in stable condition.
The attacker ran off and had not been caught by Thursday.
The crime is the latest in a series of troubling incidents in the city’s underground and comes days after an unhinged attacker with a long history of mental illness randomly shoved another man to his death in front of an East Harlem train, authorities said.
