A Tennessee homeowner shot an armed man trying to climb through his kitchen window over the weekend, sending him to the hospital with what cops called a “non-critical” gunshot wound.
Alleged would-be burglar Anton Cosby, 32, was tried to break into a Shreeve Lane home in Nashville’s Trinity Hills neighborhood at about 6 a.m. Saturday, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
But the racket he made — which included banging on the front door and the windows — woke the homeowner and his family.
“The homeowner retrieved his firearm and gave Cosby repeated commands to leave or else he’d fire his weapon,” the statement said. “Cosby then broke the kitchen window and started to climb through when the homeowner shot him once in the arm.”
The wounded intruder dropped a revolver near the kitchen sink and took off running, cops said.
Police found him nearby — but when they tried to help him, Cosby began fighting with them.
Eventually, authorities brought him to Skyline Medical Center, where he was treated for the gunshot wound.
The local district attorney’s office said the homeowner isn’t likely to face charges because he acted in self-defense.
Cosby, however, was hit with a litany of charges including aggravated burglary, felony vandalism and two gun charges, police said.
The shooting frightened neighbors, who told WSMV 4 that nothing like that has ever happened in the area.
“I probably wouldn’t have been able to sleep last night,” Linda Thomas, a 15-year neighborhood resident, told the station.
She’s considered adding more security measures, which for her already include cameras and an alarm.
“I feel so secure,” she said. “I really feel people would just not want to walk way up this hill and try to bother me.
“I’m leery that, you know, we have to have guns just to have peace in our neighborhood or our homes,” she continued. “That’s the last thing you really want to have to deal with.”
