A notoriously lenient judge sprung an accused drug dealer who allegedly received a package containing cocaine and fentanyl at the Washington Heights dental office where she works — despite prosecutors’ requests for a hefty bail, documents shows.
Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Valentina Morales sprung Madelyn Javier on supervised release on June 28 even though New York City Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan asked for $100,000 cash or $150,000 bond, the records show.
Drug agents tracked a UPS package from California to Esthetix Dental Spa in Washington Heights, where Javier was working June 27, and watched her accept the box and give an undercover agent posing as a UPS delivery person her identification, according to a criminal complaint.
Five minutes later, another agent went inside the office and found Javier, 31 of Washington Heights, with the box open in front of her, prosecutors said in the complaint.
The package had been tracked because a drug dog on the West Coast flagged it to agents on June 26.
When the detective looked inside the box, he found two brick shaped packages and three plastic baggies with numerous pills inside.
A field test revealed about eight ounces of cocaine and fentanyl, which was believed to be for resale, the document states.
Javier, who was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, pleaded not guilty and had to surrender her passport as part of her release, the records show.
A call to her attorney Friday wasn’t immediately returned.
Morales, a one-time public defender and Mayor Bill de Blasio appointee, has sprung at least four allegedly violent criminals in the past three years, including an allegedly knife-wielding Venezuelan migrant who stabbed a man with a bottle in Times Square last year, leaving him in need of 20 stitches.
