The gal-pal of a reputed Brooklyn gang member was busted trying to smuggle about $29,000 worth of oxycodone into Rikers Island over the weekend, sources said Monday.
Irena Wilson, 28, was arrested Saturday after allegedly attempting to sneak 290 pills of the addictive painkiller — hidden in a small plastic oval container masked with tobacco leaf — to her inmate boyfriend Andre Brown, 20, law enforcement sources said.
Brown, an alleged member of Brooklyn’s violent Rich Bosses crew, is being held behind bars without bail on an attempted murder indictment tied to a 2021 shooting, according to sources and court documents.
He and a Rich Bosses associate are accused of shooting into a funeral for a member of a rival gang — the 900 crew — in broad daylight, the sources said. No one was struck in the incident.
His apparent girlfriend was flagged by the city Department of Correction’s Officers Contraband Team in the visitors’ center of the Robert N. Davoren facility after authorities received a tip about an illicit, potentially deadly stash trying to make its way into the jail, the sources said.
Brown allegedly gave up the goods after being pulled aside for a search by jail guards, sources and officials said.
The pills — which later tested positive as oxy — can fetch up to $100 a pop inside Rikers, according to sources.
Wilson was charged with one count of introducing contraband and released on her own recognizance by a Bronx judge Sunday, according to court records. She’s due back in court Aug. 1.
“I applaud our Officers for their investigative efforts to once again identify and prevent narcotics from entering our jails,” DOC Commissioner Louis A. Molina said in a statement.
“Their actions saved lives. Smart, tactical investigations and arresting those who attempt to smuggle in narcotics is one of the many ways we are continuing to improve the safety of Rikers Island.”
