A knife-wielding goon in a Halloween mask randomly slashed a cook at a Long Island community wellness center as he sat in his car outside the building Thursday, according to cops and a source.
The worker was in the driver’s seat of his silver sedan in the parking lot of Hands Across Long Island on Brightside Avenue in Central Islip around 4:10 p.m. while the menace – who appeared to be wearing a “Scream” mask – lurked for a few minutes at the corner, according to Suffolk County Police and surveillance video viewed by The Post.
Then the masked creep eerily approached the victim’s car and tapped on the window – prompting the unsuspecting man to slightly open his driver’s side door, the clip shows.
That’s when the deranged suspect lunged into the car, slashing the man on his right side from his shoulder to his chest, according to the footage.
The attacker then immediately took off running down the street.
The suspect, who stood about 6 feet tall and also wore a burgundy sweatshirt and beige pants, had not been caught by Friday.
The victim was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
A worker at a nearby business, who did not want to be identified, said police informed him that the victim worked as a cook at the facility.
Officers also showed the local employee a photo of the victim at the center, with a large cut across his chest that went all the way up to his right shoulder near his neck.
“As police investigate what appears to be a random act, we are focused on the safety and well-being of our staff member,” Melissa Wettengel, CEO of Hands Across Long Island Inc., said in a statement.
The facility provides mental health, supportive housing and homeless outreach services.
