A Suffolk County Bloods gang leader was arraigned on charges of selling drugs that killed the mother of a young child and “caused serious bodily injury” to three others, federal officials announced.
Gary Johnson, 41, of Bellport, appeared in in Islip court Tuesday for allegedly selling cocaine and fentanyl to the unnamed 39-year-old Rocky Point woman in 2020.
The mother of a three-year-old, identified by feds as “Jane Doe #2,” was found dead of acute mixed drug intoxication inside her home after taking the drugs on May 1 of that year.
Another man supplied with the same drugs, “John Doe #2,” was revived with Narcan after co-workers found him unconscious in Saint James at the time.
An additional two overdose victims Johnson sold drugs to also passed out and had to be revived by emergency services with CPR and Narcan in Yaphank in March of that year.
Johnson, who prosecutors said went by the alias “G Money” and ran the G-Shine set of the gang, had been distributing heroin in addition to fentanyl and cocaine across all of Long Island from 2013 until his arrest in November of 2020, according to officials. It was not clear why the charges came five years after the arrest.
“For years, Gary Johnson knew the poison he was selling posed deadly consequences, yet, his only concern was about making money,” Suffolk Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina said.
“We will continue to work with our federal partners to take down drug traffickers while undoubtedly saving lives in the process.”
Johnson, formally charged with distributing fentanyl and cocaine in a 26-count superseding indictment, also faces narcotics, gun, and destruction of evidence charges. He is looking at a minimum mandatory 25 years in prison.
