Brian Laundrie's parents pariahs in Florida over Gabby Petito's murder: neighbors

The parents of Brian Laundrie have been outcasts in their Florida community since their son, Brian, killed his girlfriend Gabby Petito in 2021 — and neighbors tell The Post that the ostracization will get worse in the wake of a new Netflix docuseries about the case.

“American Murder: Gabby Petito” paints Christopher and Roberta Laundrie as being cold and distant to Petito when she began dating their son.

But even worse, the docuseries spotlights the allegations that the Laundrie family stonewalled investigators and refused to help them locate Petito after she was reported missing on Sept. 11, 2021.

Christopher and Roberta Laundrie, pictured in 2021, are pariahs in their North Port, Florida, neighborhood, locals told The Post. Kevin C. Downs

“The more I watched, the more pissed I got,” said Miriam Woodby, who lives near the Laundrie family in North Port.

“When I pass their house, I get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I hate them, and I’ve never even met them. I wish they’d just leave.”

Another neighbor whose property abuts the Laundries’ home agreed.

“Just horrible people, in my belief,” he said. “It’s unanimous. No one wants anything to do with them.”

A third neighbor, Jorge Ruiz, revealed that people throw garbage into the Laundries’ yard, including dirty diapers and dog feces. On at least two occasions, some have stood on the sidewalk outside the Laundrie home and hurled insults at Roberta Laundrie as she walked from her car to her house.

“Yeah, my heart breaks for her,” Ruiz said sarcastically. “That’s what you get. That’s what you get when you prolong the pain of innocent people to protect someone you know is guilty. You reap what you sow.”

Neighbors have reacted to Petito’s apparent pleas for help as she reached out to old friends to gain the courage to break up with Brian Laundrie, 23.

“I have a plan,” Petito, 22, allegedly told an ex-boyfriend, per the documentary. “I think I want to leave him. I’m going to do it. I have to figure out when to do it.”

“That family destroyed her,” another neighbor told The Post. “And it all happened across the street from me.”

Laundrie and Petito spent the summer of 2021 traveling across the western United States in a white van, documenting their adventures on YouTube. On Sept. 1, Laundrie quietly returned — alone — to his parents’ North Port home.

Ten days later, Petito’s family reported the Long Island native missing after they failed to get information from the Laundrie family.

Petito’s body was discovered in Grand Teton National Park on Sept. 19. She had been strangled to death by Laundrie, who had been abusive to her.

Days after Petito’s body was discovered, the US District Court of Wyoming issued a warrant for Laundrie’s arrest. His parents refused to cooperate with authorities and give any information about their son’s whereabouts.

A month later, Laundries’ remains were discovered in a Florida nature park alongside his backpack and notebook. He had killed himself and left behind a confession about killing Petito.

The Laundrie family attorney, Steven Bertolino, did not return The Post’s phone message or email for comment.

Christopher and Roberta Laundrie were unhelpful as authorities asked them questions about the Long Island native, damning new bodycam footage reveals.

The new docuseries, which began streaming on Netflix on Monday, is stirring up angry feelings in the Laundries’ palm tree-lined neighborhood.

“I wish them nothing but the worst,” one neighbor said.

“Seriously. I hope they know how much we all hate them here. I hope they know they don’t have any friends.”
