A box cutter-wielding Mercedes driver slashed a 60-year-old bike-riding dad who confronted him for nearly hitting his son on the Upper East Side this week, cops and sources said.
The victim and his son were riding in the bike lane at East 97th Street and First Avenue around 6 p.m. Wednesday when the driver of a black sedan made a left turn, nearly striking the son, cops said.
The angry dad started yelling at the motorist – who then got out of the Mercedes and continued the verbal clash before slashing him on the face and neck with the boxcutter, authorities and sources said.
The injured victim walked himself to the nearby Metropolitan Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The armed driver then got back in his car and took off, heading west on East 97th Street, police said.
Cops are still looking for the suspected slasher, believed to be a slim man in his late 30s with a dark complexion, standing about 6-foot-1, wearing a green shirt.
The startling attack happened in the confines of the NYPD’s 23rd Precinct, where 288 felony assaults were reported so far this year through Sunday, according to the most recent data available.
That’s about a 10 percent dip from the 320 such attacks tallied in the precinct’s confines during the same period in 2024.
