A crazed attacker stabbed a straphanger in the eye in a lower Manhattan subway station early Saturday morning — and police have enlisted the public’s help as they hunt for the violent brute.
The 57-year-old male victim was inside the 14th Street-Union Square station at about 12:46 a.m. when a verbal dispute erupted with the male suspect, according to the NYPD.
Police said the suspect rammed an unknown sharp object into the victim’s right eye before fleeing the station on foot.
Surveillance footage released by authorities shows the seemingly young assailant walking calmly and looking over his shoulder before jumping the subway turnstile while holding a brown paper bag and an unknown black object.
The suspect was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, a black leather jacket, black gloves, dark-colored pants and white sneakers, the footage shows.
First responders transported the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue for treatment in stable condition, police said.
It was not known if the attacker and the victim knew each other.
