The 18-year-old daughter of a former Kentucky sheriff charged with gunning down a small town judge is venting about “gossip” being spread online about her dad.
Lila Stines took to TikTok last week to blast the netizens speculating about her father, Shawn “Mickey” Stines, 44, who was caught on video barging into the chambers of District Judge Kevin Mullins, 54, and shooting him dead in September 2024.
Lila Stines didn’t speak about her dad’s case, but she did ask the rumormongers to back off.
“Do you have nothing better to do than to sit and gossip?”Stines railed in a TikTok video posted last week. “You are taking my pain and making it your pleasure.”
Lila Stines spoke out over a year after the bizarre case of small-town murder, to which Mickey Stines has pleaded not guilty, despite video evidence of him barging into Mullins office with a gun.
Surveillance video from inside the chambers showed the men switching cellphones and looking at something on them — before the sheriff walked over and shot Mullins dead, sources told the Mountain Eagle.
Stines then walked out and immediately surrendered, telling cops: “They’re trying to kidnap my wife and kid.”
The pair were longtime friends and even had lunch together hours before the attack.
Stines is putting together an insanity defense, but rumors have swirled about possible drama between the two men.
One woman claimed to have been caught up in a sexploitation ring operated by the judge.
Lechter County resident Tya Adams told NewsNation’s “Banfield” that Mullins ran his courthouse “like a brothel,” allegedly coercing women into sexual favors for in exchange for leniency and had been warned to keep quiet about the judge’s exploits.
“We would do sex parties and perform shows and have sex with them for money, things like that,” Adams alleged. “It was consensual. But it was the thing that we were so young, and then they used it against us and to destroy our lives later.”
Separately, Sarah Davis — a former deputy jailer at the Letcher County lockup — told the outlet she’d heard about the “nasty and sickening” stories to come out of the parties.
Since the killing, netizens have postulated that Mullins was having an affair with Stine’s wife, or even 18-year-old Lina.
Now, Lina wants everyone to shut up about it.
“You’re taking our stories and turning them into entertainment pieces, jokes, and for that matter, you’re making it your income. Since when did that become OK?” she said in the video, which now has more than 40,000 likes.
In a follow-up video posted Monday, Stines said she was “shocked” at the response her video has gotten — especially from commenters making jokes about her tattoos and haircut.
But she also said she doesn’t plan to keep quiet about the situation.
“I just want to say that a lot of things that are in the dark, they are coming to light,” she said in a video posted Monday. “I looked up the definition of insanity and it’s basically doing the same thing over and over and over again, expecting change. The silence is over.”
