From “Miller Time” to jail time.
A driver clocked going 122 mph by cops admitted to pulling over on the highway to chug a beer, authorities in Connecticut said.
Carlos Gallegos-Loja, 23, of Brockton, Massachusetts, was first spotted by state police after he pulled over to the side of the road in his Chevrolet Traverse around 1 a.m. Sunday on I-84 West in West Hartford, according to a statement from Connecticut State Police.
All of the SUV’s occupants were outside the vehicle at the time, according to state police, who drove off before returning to check on them.
But by then, the car had gone, police said.
The SUV was spotted shortly afterward by a different state trooper traveling 122 mph in a 65-mph zone and failing to stay in one lane several miles away, according to state police.
Gallegos-Loja showed “clear signs of impairment” when he was pulled over by troopers, including slow actions and slow speech, state police said.
Open alcohol containers were also spotted in the SUV, and Gallegos-Loja admitted that the first time he had pulled over, it was so he could chug a beer, according to police.
“When questioned about stopping … Gallegos-Loja explained that he had pulled over to drink a beer then continued on his way westbound,” police said in their statement.
Gallegos-Loja failed field sobriety testing and was promptly arrested.
He faces multiple charges including reckless driving, driving under the influence, illegal operation of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, failure to drive in the proper lane on a limited access highway, improper parking, operating a motor vehicle without a license and drinking while driving.
Gallegos-Loja was freed on $1,000 bond and is due to appear in Hartford Superior Court on July 15.
