The Issue: Gov. Hochul’s State of State address, including proposed measures to reduce subway crime.

In her State of the State address, Gov. Hochul proposed to provide a police officer for every train during overnight hours for six months (“Kat sees the light!” Jan. 15).

What about the other 16 hours per day?

And what happens at the end of the six-month period?

Hochul also wants to spend millions for LED lighting.

Lighting isn’t a problem.

It’s a smoke screen for us New Yorkers to forget about her incompetence and $9 congestion “tax.”

Robert Leavy

Queens

In a classic case of politicians saying just about anything to get re-elected, the governor has promised changes for better crime prevention.

She has also seen the clear shift away from liberals, since President-elect Donald Trump’s stunning win.

I don’t trust her, and I’m hoping enough New Yorkers agree with me.

It’s time for us to see the light, and vote her out of office.

Robert Feuerstein

Staten Island

In sum and substance what Hochul said in her State of the State speech was that the same thousands of criminals who have been terrorizing this city will continue to do so.

So now we’re going put a cop on the train during nights to look after and protect the homeless, the mentally ill and prevent crime?

But if the police move officers to the subway, we still have the mentally ill, the homeless and criminals on the street.

This move will not correct the problem of crime, only move it elsewhere.

Hochul is grabbing at straws.

Big changes must happen in order to bring the city back to where it used to be in previous years.

Gene O’Brien

Whitestone

If elections were held now, Hochul couldn’t even be elected dog catcher (“No ‘Affordable’ Help For NYC Homeowners,” Post Opinion,  Joe Borelli & Justin Brannan, Jan. 16).

Instead of making the city more and more unaffordable by pandering to campaign contributors, Hochul should look to other, more efficient means of raising revenue.

Funds could be raised by making fare-beaters pay and making the MTA operate more efficiently by eliminating all the waste, which costs us untold sums.

Of course, all this will never happen because Hochul is intimidated by her woke progressive allies and donors.

The Issue: President Biden ordering the release of 11 prisoners detained at Guantanamo Bay.

The latest insult President Biden has perpetrated upon the American people is releasing prisoners from Guantanamo Bay (“Joe turns terror loose,” Paul Sperry, Jan. 13).

Is there anyone in this country or the government who can stop this man from his destructive tendencies?

What a slap in the face to the families of the thousands murdered on 9/11, a tragedy the men he is releasing are implicated in.

The number of victims continues to rise, with illnesses that first responders and those working and living in that area are still suffering from.

Jan. 20, when this man and his policies are over and done with, will be a day to celebrate America.

Maureen Sharkey

Just when you think things couldn’t get worse, President Biden rears his head and releases detained terrorists.

How senseless and destructive can this person get?

I hope President-elect Donald Trump reverses all of Biden’s disastrous policies.
