An illegal immigrant from El Salvador has been charged with stabbing to death a Virginia man who then staggered into a stranger’s home, according to authorities.
Jose Velasquez-Martinez, 27, is accused of stabbing 29-year-old Brandon Probst in the neck after they got into a fight outside a woman’s home in Warrenton, Virginia, according to the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office.
Probst then staggered into the house and was found bleeding from the neck by homeowner Joette Breeden around 10 p.m. March 27, according to police.
Breeden, who did not know the stabbed man, called 911 and Probst was rushed to a local hospital, where he died from his wounds.
Velasquez-Martinez was arrested March 31 at a Front Royal hotel in Augusta County and charged with malicious wounding and murder, police said.
He had “illegally entered the United States on an unknown date in 2011, at an unknown location, and without being inspected, admitted, or paroled by a U.S. immigration official,” and ICE spokesperson told Fox 5 DC.
The shocked homeowner said it reflects a bigger problem in the area.
“I think there’s a lot of illegal immigrants here,” Breeden told Fox 5 DC. “I think some are here honestly trying to make a better life for themselves, but unfortunately, among those there are people like this that we come across.”
