A man was fatally shot during an attempted robbery at a Brooklyn gas station – one of two people killed by gunfire in the Big Apple overnight into Sunday, police said.
The 33-year-old man, who was not immediately publicly identified, was blasted in the head outside the BP station on Myrtle Avenue near Grove Street in Bushwick just after 4 a.m. Sunday, cops and police sources said.
He was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation reveals that he was the victim of an attempted robbery, police said.
It wasn’t immediately clear what the suspects had attempted to steal from the man, who does not have a criminal record, cops said.
Four men and one woman fled after the shooting, police sources said. Two .38 caliber shell casings were recovered, the sources said.
The deadly violence marked the second fatal shooting in the city overnight, cops said.
A 44-year-old man took a bullet to the right leg at West 175th Street and Macombs Road in the Morris Heights section of the Bronx just before 11 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.
He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A person of interest was taken into custody at the site of the shooting.
The name of the victim has not been released, pending family notification.
The motive for that shooting remained under investigation Sunday morning.
