A fourth person was arrested Thursday in connection to the WWE-style attack on the black co-captain of a riverboat that was trying to dock in Alabama.
Mary Todd, 21, was slapped with a third-degree assault charge after she turned herself in to Montgomery police and is being held in jail, the department said.
Police did not disclose what role she played in the violent melee, but video shows a woman with features similar to Todd’s hurling punches and shoving others during the chaotic brawl that some believe was racially charged.
Todd is the fourth person to be hit with misdemeanor charges in connection to the epic fight — though police said more arrest warrants are likely to be handed down in the coming days.
Richard Roberts, 48, Allen Todd, 23, and Zachary Shipman, 25, were charged Tuesday with assault.
It is not yet clear whether Mary Todd and Allen Todd are related.
The out-of-control battle broke out Saturday when a group of white boaters parked their pontoon boat in a designated docking spot for the city-owned Harriott II riverboat, police said.
The black riverboat co-captain, Damien Pickett, took another vessel to shore to move the pontoon boat so some 200 Harriott II passengers could disembark when he was brutally attacked.
Wild footage captured several white adults pouncing on Pickett in a WWE-style takedown that involved punching, kicking and shoving.
The fight quickly escalated into a manic battle that involved dozens of others, including riverboat crew members who stepped in to help their co-captain, according to police.
The brawl ended with people thrown into the river, multiple struck with a folding chair and several in handcuffs.
One witness claimed members of the pontoon party screamed the N-word before instigating the giant melee.
Another man said he “was getting his gun” just before he was tackled by a riverboat crew member, bystanders told police.
At least 13 people were detained and interviewed in the aftermath of the brawl, and more people could be arrested as police continue their investigation.
Police are still looking for Reggie Gray, 42, who they believe was spotted whacking at least two people with a folding chair.
Montgomery Police Chief Darryl Albert has said that his force looked into the possibility of race-hate charges with the help of the FBI.
However, they concluded the fight was not racially motivated – citing what Pickett told investigators.
The captain of the Harriott II, Jim Kittrell, thinks otherwise.
“It makes no sense to have six people try to beat the snot out of you just because you moved their boat up a few feet. In my opinion, the attack on Damien was racially motivated,” Kittrell told The Daily Beast.
