In this episode of True Crime Daily: The Podcast Updates: Robert Durst was a millionaire real estate mogul, but controversy seemed to follow him wherever he went. His wife Kathie disappeared in 1982, and she was never seen or heard from again. Eighteen years later, in 2000, he shot and killed his close friend, Susan Berman. The next year, he allegedly gunned down his neighbor in Galveston, Texas.
He remained on the run for several years until his ruse came to an end in 2015 when he admitted while on a hot mic for the docuseries “The Jinx” that he committed murder. He was arrested in New Orleans in 2015 and charged with Susan Berman’s death.
He went to trial in Los Angeles in May 2021, though the trial faced delay after delay. He was convicted in September 2021 of first-degree murder and later sentenced to life in prison without parole.
In January 2022, just a few months after his conviction and sentencing, Durst died after going into cardiac arrest.
Let’s look back at the episode where Alison Triessl and I discuss Durst’s case and sentencing.
