The mother of the 12-year-old Texas boy who allegedly stabbed a woman at her house after putting on surgical gloves apologized to the victim Sunday as police revealed the preteen has been charged over the violent encounter.
The 12-year-old boy was arrested and booked on an aggravated assault charge after he allegedly stabbed the 59-year-old woman multiple times on Saturday, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a post on X.
The youngster is currently in custody at Harris County Juvenile, the top cop said.
The boy allegedly attacked the woman in front of his 7-year-old brother who he brought with him for the shocking crime.
The younger boy is “not culpable by law,” Gonzalez said, though he noted child protective services were notified about the incident.
The two boys initially got into an argument with the adult victim before riding off on their bikes, according to footage obtained by KHOU.
But the siblings returned minutes later with surgical gloves on and the older boy allegedly stabbed her multiple times, according to the video and Harris County Sheriff’s investigator Sergio Torres.
She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The boys’ mother apologized to the woman Sunday while also saying her older son has mental health issues.
“I’m sorry to the family. I’m very sorry that my son committed the incident,” the mother told KPRC. “And I’m praying for your health, for your wellness.”
“My son, he struggles with mental problems,” she also said.
The victim’s brother called police after arriving at the house to check on his sister, police said.
“He just came at the right time,” Torres said, according to KPRC. “Opened the door and saw that she was stabbed.”
The victim also has a history of mental health issues, which has led to other trouble and confrontations on the block, KHOU reported.
“We try to keep our patience,” neighbor Maddy Monsalve told the station.
“We are understanding even though it’s very frustrating and we all have to call the cops, not just me, other neighbors have too, we try to have patience.”
