New York City's mad mayoral race: Letters

The Issue: The New York mayoral race, led by ex-Gov. Cuomo and Zohran Mamdani in second place.

New York’s mayoral race features the Dems putting forth antisemitic extremist Zohran Mamdani and sexual predator and COVID killer Andrew Cuomo (“Dems on pace for 2-horse NYC race,” April 21).

In the meantime, Mayor Adams is flashing signs of political maturity as he moves to the Independent Party. If the man is guilty of anything, it was his naivety in trusting his former Bed-Stuy clique with high-level cabinet positions.

It strikes me that he has learned from that faulty decision-making. Give me Adams all day long.

Ken Karcinell

Hewlett

The eight-year reign of hapless ex-Mayor Bill de Blasio that coincided with left-wing Andrew Cuomo’s reign as governor was a tag team that left the city in shambles.

De Blasio’s influence on the city has mercifully ended. But as in a game of whack-a-mole, former Cuomo has resurfaced and is in the lead for the Democratic nomination in the mayoral election.

In a field of left-wing socialists, he is the lesser of the evils. But handing him the keys to the city would be asking for more of the same policies that led to the deterioration of New Yorkers’ quality of life.

Thomas Urban

Wantagh

Anyone who would vote for Cuomo needs a check-up from the neck up. You Democrats keep putting these phonies in office who do very stupid things, like getting seniors killed and appointing bad people to free cop-killers.

Why not give a Republican like Curtis Sliwa a chance?

He would make living in New York much better.

Donald Coles

Boynton Beach, Fla.

The disintegration of the Big Apple continues with the upcoming mayoral race and the questionable caliber of the candidates.

Are we to believe that our tried and true New Yorkers would actually vote for radical Queens Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani?

Mamdani wants to systematically tear apart all the workings of New York and just turn it into a “socialist nirvana.” His antisemitic beliefs alone are a reason to totally disqualify his candidacy.

New Yorkers need to stand strong and save their city; say no to Zohran Mamdani for mayor.

Alice Daly

Mahopac

Will somebody wake up the Republican Party of New York?

The competition is between an antisemitic socialist, a former governor whose decisions were responsible for hundreds of deaths during COVID and the current mayor, who will lean any way the wind blows in his favor.

John Avelli

The Issue: Gov. Hochul’s idea to release thousands of inmates amid a staffing crunch at state prisons.

It is hard to believe, after our cities were assaulted by thugs and gang members thanks to Biden border policies, that we are now faced with a second strike by the no-clue Gov. Hochul (“Kat’s ‘get out of jail free’ pitch,” April 19).

She is looking to spring 2,000-plus violent criminals because there is a correction-guard shortage.

The salary of a correction officer is much less than the cost we will suffer having more thugs getting a “get out of jail” card from Hochul.

She and the New York City Council are so out of touch with reality.

This stupidity must be stopped.

Maureen Sharkey

Brooklyn

Let me get this straight: Gov. Hochul fires 2,000 correction officers and now wants to release between 3,000 and 4,000 felons because the prisons are short-staffed.

As our own Cindy Adams writes, “Only in New York, kids, only in New York.”

Keith LePage
