New York state leads the country again when it comes to driving out citizens — 2023 saw nearly 1% of the population leave, more than 180,000 people.
That’s the biggest chunk of any state population.
Yes, this number is “better” than the 2022 figure, which saw net outmigration of more than 244,000.
But New York’s been losing residents for a long time, and the latest figure shows that the COVID-era hemorrhage isn’t stopping.
And also that it wasn’t solely due to the state’s insane, draconian and useless pandemic policies that shuttered schools and wrecked businesses — those are gone.
So what’s driving people out now?
Start with crime: It’s rampant in New York state, despite Gov. Hochul’s junk-statistics bid to deny it.
Look no further than the case of Monique Fort, who robbed a little boy and assaulted his mom in The Bronx. Despite 14 — yes, 14! — previous arrests, a judge let her go, virtually guaranteeing she’ll go on to seriously harm or murder someone.
Then there’s the migrant crisis: Hundreds of thousands of migrants have flowed into the state thanks to the Harris-Biden border disaster, presenting a fiscal nightmare and a tidal wave of social problems.
But the progs in charge of the state and local government refuse to take any meaningful action.
What are Empire State leftists spending their time on?
Making sure that Gothamites get time off from work to mourn their pets — at least if a bill from ultra-left City Councilman Shaun Abreu becomes law.
And waging a war on cars, like socialist Assembly Member Emily Gallagher, all the while racking up traffic tickets for running red lights and illegal parking.
New York electeds have gone far beyond simply being indifferent to the public’s needs and wants.
They’re fully in “open contempt” territory now.
And guess what? New Yorkers all over the state are taking the hint, and hitting the road.
