A subway rider lost part of his index finger during a struggle with a knife-wielding robber on a train in the Bronx, police said Sunday.
The 27-year-old victim was on a northbound 4 train at about 5 a.m. Saturday when the unidentified suspect started talking to him, according to the NYPD.
The victim tried to walk away as the train neared the 170th Street station — and that’s when the suspect allegedly pulled a knife and tried to grab the victim’s necklace, cops said.
The victim — whose name has been withheld by police — fought back, reaching for the blade and, in the process, lost part of his left index finger, the NYPD said.
The suspect — who cops say had a dark complexion and wore a beige coat — ran off as soon as the train reached the station.
The victim, meanwhile, walked to BronxCare Health and Wellness Center for treatment, cops said.
The NYPD has asked anyone with information about the incident to cal the department’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

Subway crime has jumped by about 10% this November compared to the same month last year — and that’s driven mostly by an increase in assaults and larcenies, according to the latest MTA and NYPD statistics.
But overall crime is down about 2.5% year-over-year, with murders plummeting by 44%, according to the stats.
