The New York City woman charged with setting fire to her ex-boyfriend’s Queens home, killing him and another woman inside, is the sister of a top Bollywood star, according to a report.
Aliya Fakhri, who was indicted on murder charges last week, is the sister of Nargis Fakhri, a New York-born actress in Hindi-language films in India who is best known in the US for her role in the 2015 action-comedy blockbuster “Spy,” according to The Times of India.
Fakhri does not appear to have addressed the arrest of her estranged sister, whom she has not spoken to for at least 20 years, the outlet said.
Aliya, 43, is accused of yelling, “You’re all going to die today,” before allegedly setting the detached garage in Jamaica ablaze, causing an inferno that killed Edward Jacobs, a 35-year-old father of three, and Anastasia Ettienne, 33, last month, prosecutors said.
She allegedly became incensed after Jacobs turned down Aliya’s attempts to get back together a year after they had broken up.
Aliya pulled up to the garage around 6: 20 a.m. while Jacobs and Etienne slept inside. After Ettienne became aware of the fire, she raced upstairs to save Jacobs — but the garage quickly became engulfed in flames and the pair was unable to escape, Queens District Attorney Dan Katz said.
“The victims tragically died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries,” Katz said in a statement.
The dad leaves behind a set of 11-year-old twin boys and another 9-year-old boy, Jacobs’ mother said.
Aliya is charged with four counts of murder in the first degree, four counts of murder in the second degree and one count each of arson in the first degree and arson in the second degree. She has pleaded not guilty.
She could face a life sentence in prison if convicted.
The alleged arsonist was remanded in court last Wednesday. Her next appearance is scheduled for Dec. 9.
