Ron Jeremy, the former porn star accused of sexually assaulting multiple women, will be released from jail to a “private residence” as his health worsens, nearly a year after he was formally declared incompetent to stand trial.
A California judge granted the 70-year-old’s request to be placed in a private residence to receive “round the clock medical care” after “no medical facility will take him,” according to an email obtained by the Los Angeles Times.
The Friday ruling comes after Los Angeles County Deputy Dist. Atty. Paul Thompson shared the email with Jeremy’s victims, explaining that his “medical condition has deteriorated to the point that he is essentially bedridden.”
Thompson expressed dismay over the final stage of the case to Jeremy’s accusers, saying the ruling is “beyond” his control in the email, according to the outlet.
“I feel very badly that this is where we are, but it is beyond our control. His mental and physical condition deteriorated rapidly, and we are left with no other options,” he wrote. “I’m sorry that we couldn’t get complete justice for you in court.”
Jeremy’s attorney shared that the “private residence” is still unknown.
Concerns over the accused rapist’s dwindling health concerns started when his criminal defense attorney, Stu Goldfarb, told a judge his client did not recognize him.
“He’s not competent to go [on] trial and he’s not been proven guilty, but he’s charged with a serious felony. What do you do with him?” Goldfarb said, according to the outlet.
“Most importantly, how do you protect the public, and equally as important, how do you protect his civil rights? He ends up in a facility that’s secure, so the public is not at risk and he doesn’t have to be housed in prison.”
Jeremy has been in jail since his arrest in 2020.
Jeremy, whose real name is Ron Jeremy Hyatt, was first charged with multiple counts of sexual assault in 2020 when four women accused him of attacking them in bars along the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood.
Allegations against Jeremy exploded after dozens of women contacted the LA County Sheriff’s Department with accusations of groping and rape that spanned decades, including one allegation that accused him of committing a lewd act against a 15-year-old at a party in Santa Clarita, according to the outlet.
In 2021, thirty-four criminal counts were brought against Jeremy based on allegations by 23 different women, with the oldest dating back to 1996.
The victims’ ages range from 15 to 51, with many accusing Jeremy of luring them into a small space, often the bathroom of a West Hollywood bar, and sexually assaulting them.
The Rainbow Room Bar & Grill was allegedly the former adult film star’s alleged hunting ground and is currently being sued by several women for negligence over Jeremy’s alleged behavior there, according to Rolling Stone.
In February, the skin flick icon was committed to a state mental hospital in California after Superior Court Judge Ronald Harris ruled that Jeremy was not competent to assist in his defense.
“When he was arrested two years ago, I said he would be found innocent of all charges,” Goldfarb told the Associated Press in an email in January.
“Two years have passed and with the additional discovery I received, I believed he would have been found innocent. It is unfortunate due to mental condition he will not go to trial and have the opportunity to clear his name,” he added.
Jeremy has denied all wrongdoing.
