Two Portland kids made a daring escape when a woman hijacked their father’s vehicle for a 10-minute joyride.
Iosha Dashae Millage, 33, is accused of jumping into the idle car while the father quickly ran into a store on Jan. 22, leaving his two children, ages 9 and 11, alone, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
The unidentified father suffered a sprained finger when he tried to stop Millage from driving off with his children.
“I rushed over to try to stop her … but as I was holding onto the door, she took off,” the father told KGW8. “I wasn’t fast enough to get her out of the car.”
The brave brothers jumped out of the vehicle when it came to a stop at a traffic light and flagged down a good Samaritan who called 911.
Officers responded quickly after receiving the call at 2:46 p.m., eventually locating the children and bringing them back to safety with family.
Shortly after that, a local deputy officer alerted other officers after spotting Millage in the stolen vehicle traveling on an interstate in North Portland.
When police hawked down Millage to stop her from driving any further, she ignored authorities and kept driving — prompting a chase along the interstate.
“A pursuit was initiated which traveled northbound onto I-5 and into Washington state,” police state in a statement.
Millage was booked into Clark County Jail and faces several charges of attempt to elude, reckless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and fugitive from justice
Oregon was listed as the fourth highest state in motor vehicle thefts with a rate of 551 per 100,000 people in 2022, according to data tracked by the FBI.
There were a reported 10,800 stolen vehicles in 2022 alone in Portland, but has since declined to 7,000 plus cars reported stolen in 2023, Portland Police Bureau tracked.
“When the extradition process is complete, Millage will be transported to Multnomah County where additional charges could be filed,” police stated.
The Portland Police Bureau says they are continuing the investigation.
