The woman accused of striking a cop with her car as she drove the wrong way on an Upper East Side street Wednesday is facing vehicular assault and other charges, according to authorities.
The motorist, identified by police as 24-year-old Sahara Dula, of Brooklyn, was also hit with assault, reckless endangerment and impaired driving charges.
She allegedly barreled into the police officer shortly after the NYPD responded to an unrelated heist by a gang of thieves at a high-end clothing store around 4:30 p.m., police said. The robbers took off in a black Lexus before fleeing from the car on foot four blocks from the Mackage store.
As police guarded that getaway car, an officer spotted Dula, who was behind the wheel of a gray Lexus, allegedly driving northbound in the southbound lane.
When the cop ordered her to pull over, the driver hit the gas and ran into the cop, sending him flying over the side of the car, authorities alleged. Dula was arrested at the scene.
The officer suffered leg and arm injuries.
“Another night, another hospital emergency room, this time with our brother police officer who was run down on the Upper East Side,” the city’s PBA tweeted Wednesday.
“Thankfully he will be OK, but we need all NYers to help us protect the cops who protect your neighborhood.”
Two other police officers were shot and wounded by another suspect earlier in the week who was resisting arrest during a domestic dispute call.
Dula was previously arrested in March 2022 for criminal mischief and cops alleged she destroyed property, according to police.
She has not been arraigned yet from Wednesday’s case, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said.
