A 30-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle while chasing his dogs after they escaped onto a San Antonio interstate over the weekend.
The man had been having car troubles and stopped on the right shoulder of the highway near Dietrich Road on the city’s East Side when his dogs bolted from his vehicle, San Antonio police said.
In an attempt to wrangle the beloved pooches the man began chasing after them on the busy thoroughfare at about 10 p.m. Sunday night.
As he finally managed to catch one of his dogs, a commercial vehicle coming down the highway ran the pair over.
The driver of the commercial vehicle rushed towards the horrific scene in a bid to help, but the 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Footage shot by KSAT painted a picture of the tragedy — an RV sat dormant on the side of the road, its bonnet open and a crooked number plate dangling from the front.
Meanwhile a single sneaker lay in the middle of the road.
According to People, San Antonio Animal Care Services were on scene and can be seen taking away one of the dogs from the area.
