A man’s severed head and dismembered body were found stuffed in a taped-off freezer in Brooklyn – and a woman inside the apartment was detained on unrelated warrants, cops and law enforcement sources said.
Police made the grisly find around 6:15 a.m. Monday when they showed up at the fourth-floor unit on Nostrand Avenue near Farragut Road in Flatbush – prompted by a CrimeStoppers tip about a possible body being “stored” there, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said Tuesday.
“During the course of patrol’s investigation, they came across some body parts in the freezer,” Kenny told reporters. “At this point we’re trying to identify that person.”
The refrigerator was taped shut in an effort to prevent the odor of the remains from escaping, sources said.
“We have a head. We have some limbs,” Kenny told reporters Tuesday. “As of right now it seems like we have the whole body.”
A woman who was inside the apartment at the time was taken into custody because she had several open petit larceny warrants, sources said.
She was hospitalized because she “complained of illness,” Kenny said.
Investigators would like to speak with her, but hadn’t been able to do so by Tuesday afternoon, because she was still at the hospital, according to Kenny.
The city Medical Examiner’s office will officially determine the man’s cause of death.
