In this episode of True Crime Daily The Podcast updates: The July 4 holiday should have been fun and festive for Wisconsin couple Bart and Krista Halderson. Instead, the couple was violently murdered and dismembered with their remains dumped in various locations.
Bart and Krista’s son, Chandler Halderson, reported them missing July 7, 2021, and said they went to their lake cabin but never returned. The next day, police found human remains in a rural area. The remains were identified as Bart’s. About three weeks later, investigators located Krista’s remains.
Chandler was initially arrested for providing false information, but prosecutors upgraded his charges to first-degree homicide, hiding a corpse, and mutilating a corpse.
He went to trial in January 2022. Dane County prosecutors told the jury that Chandler murdered his parents because they had discovered he had been lying to them about his attendance at college and his job prospects. After just two hours of deliberation, Chandler was convicted.
In March 2022, a judge sentenced Chandler to life in prison without parole.
