A stranger pummeled an elderly man after refusing to allow the senior inside the elevator at a busy Lower Manhattan subway station during the evening commute, police said.
The 71-year-old victim was trying to take the elevator from the southbound B, D, F and M platform at the Broadway-Lafayette subway station around 7:45 p.m. Aug. 10 when the brute stopped him from stepping inside, cops and sources said.
The attacker then shoved him and punched him multiple times in the face – with the flurry of blows causing him to fall and hit his head on the platform, cops said.
The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition and treated for a cut on his head and bruising and swelling on his face, authorities said.
A surveillance image released by the NYPD late Wednesday shows the attacker wearing a red and black Atlanta Hawks jacket, black pants, white sneakers, and pushing a hand truck.
He was still on the loose Friday.
Anyone with information on the brutal attack is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
