A 62-year-old UK woman vandalized several parked cars during her strolls – and blamed her actions on “feeling menopausal.”
Sue Williams scratched multiple vehicles – including a Mercedes and a Range Rover – with her keys during her vandalism spree last year in Sevenoaks, Kent, the Telegraph reported about a new court hearing.
On March 18, 2022, she keyed three cars, including a Seat Tarraco that required roughly $3,400 to repair, according to the outlet.
About a week later, she targeted a Mercedes, which cost about $1,800 to repair, and then a Mini, Vauxhall Mokka, Fiat 500 and Range Rover Vogue, causing almost $2,500 in damage, the Times of London reported.
In all cases, she reportedly took aim at cars that were parked with at least two wheels on the sidewalk.
Williams was charged with multiple counts of criminal damage and admitted to the crimes.
Her attorney, Stewart Lewis, told Medway magistrates that the only reason Williams keyed the vehicles was because she was feeling “menopausal.”
“It’s not been identified as such, but something happened in her mind to damage the vehicles. They were all parked on the pavement and it restricts people walking on the pavement,” he said.
“They have to go in the road to go around the vehicle,” Lewis added.
On Oct. 25, the woman appeared in court, where she was sentenced to a three-month curfew, during which she must stay in her home between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
William also was ordered to pay back more than $5,500 to the owners, some of whom repaired the damage with their insurance.
Lewis told the court that Williams’ husband would cash in his pension to pay for the damage.
