It’s official: A sitting US senator has announced to the world he cares more about the rights of illegal immigrants than his own constituents.
Maryland Dem Chris Van Hollen took a grandstanding trip to El Salvador to cozy up to Kilmar Abrego Garcia while blubbering about how the Trump administration is guilty of some crime in sending an illegal El Salvadoran immigrant, alleged human trafficker and likely MS-13 honcho back to . . . El Salvador.
Hmmmm: We don’t recall van Hollen doing anything so grandiose after a constituent of his, Rachel Morin, was brutally murdered by a different illegal Salvadoran immigrant.
Victor Martinez Hernandez bashed her skull in, raped her and strangled her to death.
Killer-coddling Chris also voted no on the Laken Riley Act, along with many other Democrats who believe the rights of border-jumping criminals trump those of law-abiding Americans.
Question, Senator: If you love the law so much, where was similar photo-op outrage when it was broken by Morin’s killer?
Indeed, you took the occasion of his conviction on April 15 to smarm publicly about due process for murderous illegal immigrants, and rub that in the face of everyone who ever loved Morin.
Vile Van Hollen clearly believes he can ride a wave of sympathy for Abrego and his ilk among the American people to further political success; it’s beyond obvious he simply does not care about the rule of law.
Fortunately, he’s dead wrong.
Yes, among the elite circles Van Hollen — a consummate child of privilege — moves in, backing to the hilt any criminal and above all those who come here illegally is de rigueur.
But voters in November showed they’d had enough. They elected Donald Trump with a mandate to restore order at the border.
And public data on the subject shows that they still feel that way about his border policies, even as they’ve soured on the Trump administration’s economic policy.
So Van Hollen can appear in as many buddy-buddy photo shoots as he wants.
All it does is prove how utterly debased both he and his party are — and their total contempt for the citizens they no longer even pretend to represent.
