The Hawaii engineer whose doctor husband allegedly tried to murder her while hiking a scenic cliff has accused him of sexually abusing her for months before the attack, according to a report.
Arielle Konig, 36, claims in a restraining order that her husband, Gerhardt Konig, 46, sexually abused and assaulted her for months before trying to push her off the Pali Lookout, a famous panoramic vista on Oahu, on March 24, People reported.
Arielle, a renowned nuclear engineer, said her husband of six years accused her of having an affair and had “extreme jealousy,” she wrote in the petition filed after she was attacked.
“Since then, he has attempted to control and monitor all my communications,” she claimed, noting they had been attending individual and couples counseling.
The couple had planned the trip to Oahu to celebrate Arielle’s 36th birthday without their two children, ages 2 and 5.
While on their weekend getaway, Gerhardt suggested the two hike a trail near Pali Lookout, which she described as having “narrow ridge sections with steep drop-offs on both sides,” according to Daily Mail.
During the hike, Arielle said, she became “uneasy” and did not want to go farther. Instead, she climbed a tree so her husband could take a picture of her — before he suggested they take a selfie near the edge of the cliff.
Arielle then started feeling “dizzy” and “uncomfortable” due to her proximity to the edge and asked that they move away, ultimately enraging her husband, who she said “grabbed me by my upper arms and started pushing me back toward the cliff edge,” according to the filing.
He allegedly started screaming at her to “Go back over there, I’m so f–king sick of you,” she wrote, noting she at first thought he was joking.
“I quickly realized he was seriously trying to make me fall off the cliff,” she wrote in the petition.
Her husband then began punching her and hitting her with a rock before trying to jab her with two syringes, according to reports.
“I do not know what was in the syringe, but Gerhardt is an anesthesiologist and has access to several potentially lethal medications as part of his employment,” she noted in the filing.
She managed to escape the alleged attack with facial and head injuries.
Meanwhile, Gerhardt was arrested later that evening near Pali Highway, following a brief foot pursuit.
He has been charged with attempted murder and is being held on a $5 million bond. Gerhardt is being held at the Oahu Community Correctional Center.
His bail was previously set at $5 million, but Arielle wrote to the court that she is afraid for herself, her children, and the rest of her family if her husband is released, and the judge ordered he be held without bail on Friday.
