A Georgia dad of three died in his wife’s arms after suffering a heart attack while confronting two cowardly crooks who tried to steal his pickup truck.
Javon Brown, 48, had just woken up for work at 4:30 a.m. Friday when he heard a commotion outside his Atlanta home — and spotted the pair of punks trying to take off in his truck, Atlanta police said in a release.
Wasting no time, Brown grabbed his gun to scare off the thieves.
“He came out the front door,” his heartbroken wife, Tasha Brown, told Fox affiliate WAGA-TV News. “And he stood there, just yelling down the driveway … get off of his property.
“They started shooting. I have three small children at home. All of their bedrooms are [facing] this way. So, I was trying to hustle them to safety. I’m worried about, you know, has he been hit.”
Despite the barrage of gunfire — as many as nine shots went off — Javon Brown wasn’t hit and the two wannabe crooks fled the scene, a neighbor told WAGA-TV..
That’s when Tasha Brown said her husband suddenly collapsed.
“He was able to speak. He was not hit,” she said. “But then he went into cardiac arrest over the shock. He dropped down. I did CPR, I called 911 until I couldn’t feel my arms and hands. But it wasn’t enough.”
EMTs pronounced the tragic dad dead “just inside the doorway of his home,” police said in the release.
Atlanta police said the two suspects remain on the loose. Homicide investigators are working the case with the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Brown’s devastated family, meanwhile are left to deal with the tragedy.
“You work so hard,” Tasha Brown told the news outlet. “You do the right thing. You take care of your home and take care of your family and someone feels entitled to come and try to take it from you.”
