Bronx drill rapper Kay Flock was found guilty of several federal charges this week in relation to a 2021 fatal shooting in the Bronx, including attempted murder — but found plenty to brag about.
“I beat the top count,” the rapper, born Kevin Perez, boasted in an Instagram post. “I made the judge cry. He said now he not force to give me life.”
“Never fold, never will,” he continued.
Perez is set to be sentenced on July 16.
The rapper and seven of his associates were alleged to have been behind a series of shootings that unfolded in the Bronx between 2020 and 2022, and resulted in the murder of 24-year-old Hwascar Hernandez.
Hernandez was gunned down outside of a Harlem barbershop on Dec. 16, 2021.
He was shot in the neck and back after trying to flee the barber shop.
Perez’s defense team argued the shooting was done in self-defense.
Jurors returned their verdict Thursday following two days of deliberations.
Perez was convicted of racketeering conspiracy, use of a firearm resulting in death, attempted murder, assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering, use of a firearm for attempted murder, and assault with a dangerous weapon.
The rapper “was the leader of a neighborhood street gang known as Sev Side / DOA, and with that gang, he committed a series of gang-motivated shootings,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Matthew Podolsky in a statement.
“Perez, a drill rapper, instilled fear across the community with his violent actions, and then threatened rivals, bragged about shootings, and taunted victims in his rap lyrics,” Podolsky added. “But as a unanimous jury has now found, Perez can no longer hide behind his music, and instead will be held to account for his violent crimes.
“Thanks to the hard work of the career prosecutors of this Office and our law enforcement partners, the cycle of violence that Perez engaged in is over,” he continued.
“This Office remains resolute in its commitment to prosecuting gang members who sow fear and spread violence on our city streets.”
