New York's progressive pols failed NYPD Officer Diller: Letters

The Issue: The role progressive politicians played in causing the killing of NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller.

I want to thank The Post for its coverage of the assassination of Jonathan Diller (“Officer Jonathan Diller, RIP,” Editorial, March 27).

However, there is one point that has been overlooked that I would like to make: If Diller had killed his assassin first, he would have been falsely accused of police brutality.

This latest atrocity proves that police officers are brutalized more than anyone.

And just like that, another police officer is murdered — by a career criminal arrested the month before on a gun charge and released.

What judge in his right mind would allow a violent, repeat offender with a 15-year history of incarceration out to hurt, maim and kill yet again? It turns out that a New York judge would.

A 31-year-old young man who was a husband, dad, son and brother — simply doing his job to serve and protect the public — was murdered because there are no consequences for committing a crime in the era of the no-bail law.

Look around your neighborhood, your daily commute and your surroundings. Are you afraid to travel? Then try to remember: Who did you vote for?

First, I would like to offer my condolences to Diller’s family.

My dad was an officer for 38 years with the Newark police department. The liberal Democratic progressives tell us the death penalty should not be the law of the land, that a life sentence would be a better punishment.

The problem is that a so-called life sentence is now not a life sentence under the Democratic-controlled parole board. See all the cop-killers who have been let out these last few years.

Bruce Collins

Middletown, NJ

According to Mayor Adams, Guy Rivera, the dirtbag who killed the cop from Massapequa, has been arrested more than 20 times prior to his arrest for this shooting.

I would like to know, as I’m sure many do, why this scumbag with so many arrests was even allowed to see the light of day. With that many arrests, Rivera should have been locked up for life.

How many more innocent people will be murdered, mugged and mauled by recidivist thugs and mentally ill individuals — none of whom belong unfettered on the streets of New York in the first place — before left-wing Democrats restore law and order?

Now the young Diller was wantonly killed by a career lawbreaker. From Gov. Hochul to state Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins and all those who continue to ignore the destruction and mayhem caused by their years of crook-coddling “criminal justice reforms”: The blood of all these victims drips from your hands.

If New Yorkers want this to change, then they must change those in public office now leading this city and state down the road to perdition.

James McCaffrey

The prayers from the left-wing imbeciles are just political.

They couldn’t care less about what happened to Diller because he was a white cop: a white cop who gave his life to keep New Yorkers safe. And now the maggots crawl out from under their anti-police platforms to garner support and praise? Telling them to shove it and stay away is absolutely appropriate.

Those that have abandoned cops and safety should just crawl back until voters unleash their own outrage. This includes Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and all the other anti-cop politicians.

As a born-and-bred Brooklynite, I cannot imagine the horror and sorrow that has been inflicted on Officer Diller’s family, his fellow officers and friends and all New Yorkers who stand behind the NYPD.

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, and all those whose lives he touched. You have lost a good, dedicated police officer and human being — and not one who can ever be replaced.
