Ozempic chic

When every celebrity — and every non-celebrity — who can get their hands on a GLP-1 runs to do so, is it a stretch to observe that the so-called “body positivity” movement was a fraud (“Narrow minded,” Allison Lax, Dec. 3)?

From where I sit, the whole spectacle looks like nothing more than a reworking of the “heroin chic” mania that gripped celebrities and filtered into society-at-large years ago.

The empowerment of women in our society is an illusion if we remain enslaved by capricious beauty standards.

Trump is just fine

The New York Times and other media outlets have graciously given us all the information we need to know concerning President Trump’s physical and mental health (“WH: Don is fine, Times!” Dec. 2).

Why do I suspect that their medical specialists and other pundits attended the world’s largest university, Google Medical School?

Andrew Zablow

Parsippany, NJ

‘Un-Cuomo’ NYC

Changing the name of the Mario Cuomo Bridge has had little impact on New Yorkers who still call it the Tappan Zee (“Don’t ‘Un-Cuomo’ Just the Bridge,” Editorial, Dec. 4).

What does have a lasting effect on the citizens of New York is Andrew’s sanctuary policy that prevents local law enforcement from aiding federal authorities in any way.

The recent violence against Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Lower Manhattan is a permanent stain on the disgraced governor’s legacy. With no action taken by Gov. Hochul and US Attorney General Pam Bondi, these uprisings will only get worse.

Gavin let Cali burn

This wildfire program is just one of many policies and decisions that showcase the ineptitude that Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom and his administration have shown through his tenure (“Smoking Gun,” Joel Pollack, PostOpinion, Dec. 1).

Now we see that, despite empty promises, most of the victims of the wildfires continue to fight bureaucratic quagmire and only a few have even started rebuilding.

Is this really the guy you even want to consider as your next president?

Amy Hendel

Tarzana, Calif.

Help our students

It’s no shocker that 63% of voters believe that a college degree isn’t worth it, especially since many students graduate with large amounts of debt and no specific job skills (“Colleges’ Collapsing Value,” Editorial, Dec. 1).

The cost of education is out of control and many college curricula don’t match today’s job-market needs, let alone prepare students for the future.

Many politicians love to use European countries as shining examples of good education systems, but they are ignoring alternative approaches.

We need to focus more on the students, and give them a chance for success instead of protecting the educators and the education industry.

Brice Russell

Naples, Fla.

Draconian gun law

Why have the city’s draconian gun laws made it impossible for Charles Foehner to stay out of jail for defending himself (“Clemency plea,” Paul du Quenoy, PostScript, Nov. 30)?

In Texas, anyone can openly carry a firearm without having a permit. Foehner would’ve been a free man without setting foot in a courtroom.

Roberto Lopez

McAllen, Texas
