Texas teenager Karmelo Anthony, who was charged in connection with the stabbing death of a 17-year-old at a high school track meet in April, will face a jury trial on June 1, 2026, according to reports.
Anthony, 18, was indicted by a grand jury last month after he allegedly killed Austin Metcalf during a fight over a seat at Frisco’s Kuykendall Stadium during a track meet on April 2.
Anthony, who was 17 at the time of the stabbing, was arrested and initially locked up on a $1 million bond.
He was later freed on a $250,000 bond and went to live with his family in a $900,000 home in the luxury gated community of Richwoods in Frisco, Texas, where rent is an estimated $3,500 per month, sparking public outrage.
Anthony claimed that he was acting in self-defense and his family added “the narrative being spread is false, unjust, and harmful” on a GiveSendGo.com fundraiser page for their legal fees and relocation due to “escalating threats” — which has raised more than $540,000.
Despite raising the funds, Anthony was able to convince a judge to lower his bond over financial hardship.
Metcalf and his twin brother, Hunter, were attending the track meet with their high school Frisco Memorial before the deadly dispute.
He allegedly spotted Anthony, a senior at Frisco Centennial High School, sitting underneath his team’s tent when he confronted him.
Anthony warned Metcalf not to touch him before he allegedly pulled a knife out of his bag and stabbed the teen in the chest.
Metcalf died in his twin brother’s arms as Anthony ran from the stands.
The alleged teen killer was nabbed by cops minutes later.
Anthony could face life in prison if convicted, according to the DA’s office.
