A Texas Tech graduate is breathing on her own amid a two-month-long fight for her life after a gruesome hit-and-run crash killed her roommate, her family shared.

Camryn Herriage, 23, had been on a ventilator since Feb. 11 as her uncle shared an optimistic update on the TikTok star’s recovery.

“Camryn has been breathing on her own for over 24 hours!” Tim Herriage wrote on Facebook Sunday.

“A speech therapist will visit soon to assess her ability to use voice control. This step could potentially lead to her trying to speak, and if successful, they might plug the tracheostomy.”

Her uncle revealed that “there’s a hopeful outlook” for his niece to be moved out of the ICU and into a “regular room” in the hospital in “the next week or so.”

“All of these developments are positive signs of Camryn’s progress. Thank you for your continued support as we embrace this good news,” Tim Herriage wrote, finishing the update.

Herriage’s roommate, Sara House, 22, was killed in the crash while several of their friends were injured.

Carmen Guerrero, 27, is accused of ramming her Ford pickup truck at 70 mph into the back of the vehicle carrying Herriage and her friends while they were waiting at a red light in Dallas, Fox 4 Dallas reported.

The crash caused a massive pileup in the 35-mph zone and happened only two blocks from Herriage’s apartment.

A witness of the deadly wreck told police they saw Guerrero fleeing the scene on foot after hitting the vehicle.

The witness alleged the suspected appeared “extremely intoxicated” and was “wearing a small black dress and white clubbing shoes” while she made her getaway.

Dallas police located Guerrero’s wallet in the back of the abandoned truck and arrested her 11 days after the crash.

After she graduated from Texas Tech in December, the 23-year-old moved into a Dallas apartment with her close-knit friends.

House was often featured in videos on Herriage’s TikTok page — which has amassed over 32,000 followers.

A GoFundMe page set up for House after the horrific crash called the 22-year-old victim a “bright spirit” with “infectious laughter” who “brought light into every room she entered.”

“Sara was known for her compassionate nature and her unwavering desire to make everyone around her happy. Her kindness and caring demeanor touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.”

Herriage’s sister, Casie Campanello, blasted the hit-and-run driver for her “careless act” that nearly killed her loved one.

“Literally, a careless act put us in a situation that changed all of our lives,” Campanello told Fox 4 Dallas last month.

“I know everybody, we all cry every day over it but try not to do it in the room with her.”

Guerrero faces multiple charges, including manslaughter, a collision involving death, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She is currently being held at the Dallas County jail.

If found guilty, Guerrero faces up to 50 years in prison.
