An accused serial thief well-known among Kips Bay locals was busted Thursday after breaking into a young woman’s apartment in the East Side neighborhood, according to police and a witness.
Ruddy Portorreal, 35, allegedly entered through the window of the apartment on Second Avenue near East 29th Street – above Paddy Reilly’s Music Bar – and snatched up unspecified items around 10:10 a.m., cops said.
He tried to get away, but was soon caught by cops responding to a report about the break-in and charged with burglary, police said.
The 26-year-old resident – who was not home at the time – said Portorreal was a stranger and had no authority to be there, according to cops.
“They finally caught that guy,” a witness told a Post photographer, adding that the suspect was well-known for previous burglaries in the neighborhood.
In one such case from the evening of Oct. 9, he allegedly used an object to force open a vent at the bottom of a metal door so he could enter a building on East 28th Street, according to a criminal complaint.
He then walked into the lobby, opened packages, snatched their contents and fled with the items in tow, the court document states.
Portorreal was charged with burglary and petit larceny in that case, and ordered held on $5,000 bail, which he apparently made at some point, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said.
He also was previously arrested on Sept. 25 in connection to a burglary and petit larceny case from Aug. 26, also in Manhattan, records show.
Details on that case were not immediately known.
