An FDNY fire inspector working in Brooklyn was forced to run for cover when multiple shooters fired off rounds in his direction on Wednesday, officials said.
Fire Protection Inspector Michael Fasoulakis was outside 458 Columbia Avenue in Red Hook when several suspects opened fire around 1:26 p.m., according to police and Oren Barzilay, president of FDNY EMS Local 2507.
Fasoulakis fled to a nearby side street to avoid the gunfire and nobody was struck, said Barzilay.
It’s unclear who the shooters were aiming at, according to the NYPD.
“This is another instance of FDNY EMS personnel dealing with a terrifying situation simply while trying to conduct their job and help their fellow New Yorkers,” Barzilay said in a statement.
“Fire inspectors should not have to be subject to live gunfire and conversations are being had about providing them with ballistic vests while on duty,” he added.
No arrests have been made.
